Araby |
Your Wate and Fate is the debut full-length from Araby. Recorded from December 2001 to June 2002, this is a fully realized effort from beginning to end. The sounds are fresh; the songs are impossibly good, and its themes constantly drifting towards the defeat of the inevitable. It will remind you of why you got into music in the first place- because it made you more than what you were, or at least what you thought you were. Araby’s music defines who they are. They've been playing, and listening, for most of their lives- James Mello and Dave Nurmi also compose ambient electronic music, some of which is featured on the album. Cliff Rawson has studied enough jazz guitar to earn two masters degrees. Gaynier takes a rougher approach, educating himself by playing in various bands including several as the drummer. They've come together to forge an indescribable and undeniably unique sound. Think White Album era Beatles, early Police, and late Fugazi. Think Blonde Redhead with Byrds-era harmonies. Think Sunny Day, Sigur Ros, Polvo, Floyd and Zeppelin. Or think of none of these; just listen with an open mind and imagination. |
